Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run St. Louis is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 by two area women who wanted girls to have the self-esteem and self confidence to negotiate the tough times of adolescence and become strong healthy adults. Both these women being avid runners and triathletes knew the power of running could be something special.   Girls on the Run is a national program that encourages pre-teen girls (grades 3-8) to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through an interactive curriculum and goal setting running program.  Our after school curricula addresses all the aspects of a girls' development- their physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being.  Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky behaviors.  Through interactive activities such as running, playing games, and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls.  The program focuses on building self esteem and improving emotional and physical health while training to run a 5K (3.1 miles).  During the 12 week program girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, happy and self-confident young women.
